BAA loses bid to keep Stansted
10:00am Saturday 19th February 2011
Stansted Airport looks set to still be sold, after operator BAA was refused permission to appeal.
It follows a string of appeals and counter appeals, following a Competition Commission ruling in 2009 that BAA must sell the Essex airport, plus either Edinburgh or Glasgow airports.
The Supreme Court has refused BAA permission to appeal further.
A spokesman for the airport operator said: “We continue to make the case to the Competition Commission that the circumstances in which they found reason to force the sale of airports have changed significantly since early 2009 and should certainly be reviewed in the light of the Government's policy to rule out new runway capacity in the South East of England."
